FALL 2023 WORKSHOP REGISTRATION NOW OPEN:
Gold Poems: Songs of Autumn
Saturday, October 14, 2023
10:30a-1:30p EST
$110
To usher in autumn, a season of creative harvest, transition, aging, recalibrating, revelry, this workshop is an opportunity to harness this energy poetically within a group setting. To this end, we will engage in a variety of modes - we will closely examine works by classic and contemporary poets, from John Keats and Edna St. Vincent Millay, to Gwendolyn Brooks and Joy Harjo, who have engaged with these themes; and will intertwine our own writing about and through this season with our group reading and discussions.
CONTEMPORARY BOOK CLUB
Offered during fall and spring. Fall 2023 info below.
Reading and discussion of poetry is foundational to any poetic writing practice; this option helps to provide a structure within which you may hone your close reading skills by working with different contemporary poetry collections and examining their construction and content to get a feel for the current landscape.
Sessions will run slightly differently from a typical book club in that while we will be sharing self-to-text reflection, we will deeply engage with the book at hand, unpacking form and content, focusing on both individual poems, as well as the way the pieces coalesce to form a whole.
Selections:
September: Couplets, Maggie Milner
October: Quiet, Victoria Adukwei Bulley
November: tbd! we will vote on a recent poetry release!
We will meet once each month for a two-hour session, September through November, at a mutually agreed-upon date and time via Zoom. Sessions will be recorded for you to return to.
To keep the experience intimate, space is limited to SEVEN members and only will run with a minimum of THREE members. You must commit to the three-month experience.
Registration fee: $315
Registration closes September 1
